Concentric Circles

I’ve been thinking a lot about circles lately haha.
Concentric ones! The things we keep close, the things that drift outward, and the strange little gravitational system of a life. Little obsessions come to mind, ones that once felt like they would become my entire personality and now live in a storage bin somewhere (looking at you, candle-making supplies from Covid).
Also, habits. Goals. Hobbies.
But mostly , I think about these circles in terms of the people in my life. How I lost contact with my study abroad crew who once felt integral to my life while fresh connections from friends of friends have drifted into my map. And how some people keep coming back, more ellipticals than circles.
I don’t know that we get to control how long anyone stays in our orbit, but I do think we get some say in how we honor them while they’re here.
As I get older, I’m trying to do that by telling them I love them more, wishing them a happy Friday every week. Witnessing their travels, their quests for love, their house purchases, their milestone birthdays, kids, marriages. I want to show up when I can. To give them my attention, which feels increasingly like one of the last sacred things we own, mostly because every obligation wants it, fear requires it, and my phone asks for it with the desperation of a tiny, glowing landlord.
So, I’ll leave you with the same question I’m carrying into the weekend:
What and who are in your concentric circles right now?
And how are you honoring them?
Feel free to share ofc, but mainly, feel free to answer in how you live your life.
Happy Friday!
